Did you know...

  • it is estimated the ocean creates at least 50% of the oxygen on earth?
  • oceans cover more than 70% of the earth's surface
  • it is also estimated 40 MILLION (!) people will be employed in roles related to the ocean in 2030 - it is key to our economy!
  • 30% of the world's carbon dioxide is absorbed by the ocean, helping reduce the impacts of global warming
  • the oceans are considered the lungs of our planet - a major souce of food, medicine and a critical part of the earth's biosphere

World Oceans Day was officially declared by the United Nations in 2008 to encourage people to understand the importance of protecting our oceans.  This year's theme is 'Planet Ocean - Tides are Changing' to reflect the importance of the oceans and our role in protecting them.

What can you do to protect our oceans?  Send us your tips to hello@zown.app and we'll share (or pop them in Contributor's Corner!)
